I am a strong believer in going to work because you want to, not because you have to.

I am currently reading a book called ‘Your Money or Your Life’ by Vicki Robin, Joe Dominguez and Monique Tilford. It talks about 9 steps to transform your relationship with money and achieve financial independence. A piece of writing that absolutely struck me was..
“Most of us spend much more than 40 hours out of the weeks 168 hours earning money. We must take time to dress for our jobs, commute to our jobs, think about our jobs at work or home, de-compress from our jobs. We must spend our evenings and weekends in mindless ‘escape entertainment’ in order to ‘re-create’ from our jobs. We must occasionally ‘vacate’ our jobs, or spend time at the doctor’s office to repair our ‘job-stressed’ health. We need to plan our careers, attend job seminars, or union meetings. We must spend money to maintain our jobs – clothing, commuting costs, food bought expensively at the workplace. We must spend so that our neighbourhood, house, car, lifestyle and even life mate reflect our ‘position’ in the work world.”
“Money is something we choose to trade our life energy for.”
This really got me thinking.. our jobs really do control our entire life. We give up freedom, so that we can earn money to afford a roof over our heads and food in our stomach. So why would you want to waste your life in a job you hate or aren’t passionate about?
With the rate that technology is evolving and population is increasing, more and more people will become unemployed in upcoming years as technology and robots take over. According to Lifehack, the most important job skill in 10 years time will be ‘creative thinking’.
With all that effort spent at our jobs, sacrificing our time with friends and family, our health, our life energy and the short time we have on this earth, why would you want to spend your valuable time here at a job you hate? Dreading Mondays and living for the weekend.
People enjoy jobs that challenge them, when they get to do things they are passionate about, for some people it is the ability to create their own schedule, there has also been correlation between happy people earning higher salaries.
You should be waking up in the morning excited for the day ahead, full of energy, constantly thinking about what you can do to improve yourself or the business and coming up with innovative ideas. You won’t need to live for the weekend because you will be having so much fun on a daily basis! Whatever it is that you have wanted to do since you were young, or have always had in mind but you are scared you will fail or that you aren’t good enough or that you don’t have the right skills or you are scared about what people might say or think..
It has been said that the key to success, is to be uncomfortable because it’s the only way you will grow. When you start making a change to better your life, you will be bounding with energy and so many emotions. You will experience frustration, excitement, you will obtain new skills, learn new lessons, feel joy, love, devotion, courage, and a sense of accomplishment. Don’t be scared of failure, you can always try again. Don’t ever think you aren’t ‘good enough’ to pursue your dreams. Don’t be scared you aren’t skilled enough because you will obtain new skills and learn so many things along to way. Don’t ever be scared of what people might say or if they will judge you, all you have to do is prove them wrong!
Get out of your comfort zone and MAKE IT HAPPEN. You don’t want to live your life full of ‘What If’s’.
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”.
