Starting a blog has recently exploded in the online world, for personal or business use. With the increased availability and speed of internet over time, more and more people are creating online communities where they can share their knowledge and stories with the world. Blogging has been around for many many years, but as inflation is increasing, causing the cost of living to go up, more and more people are trying to escape the rat race. Blogging gives you the opportunity to work from home, increase your income without increasing your working hours, freedom to travel while you work, and a haven to meet others alike and build long-lasting friendships.
In this post I will discuss the pro’s and con’s of having a blog, to give an insight on what goes on behind the scenes, and how much work is needed to succeed and stand out. If you have been thinking about starting one, then I hope this information can help you to decide if it is right for you!

Share Your Knowledge With The World
Blogging provides you with a platform to offer solutions to people’s struggles all over the world. It’s a fantastic feeling when you can help someone else improve themselves, think more positively, organise their life, dream bigger, aim higher, improve their weaknesses, and give them the advice they need to achieve their goals.
Make A Name For Yourself / Increase Your Online Presence
Over time when you start to grow your followers and readers, people will recognize you all over the world if you make an impact on their lives, or act as an inspiration to them. This can open up many opportunities such as business prospects, collaborations, or chances for you to meet other people you look up to.
If you are a business owner, having a blog and educating your target audience about your product, or providing them with general knowledge related to your niche, can increase customer loyalty and drive more sales.
There are many ways to make money blogging such as affiliate marketing, displaying ads, selling digital products such as an online course or e-book, host paid webinars, manage social media accounts, sell your consulting/coaching services, sell physical products, or do sponsored posts. Increase Your Productivity In Your Free Time, To Work Towards Something Worthwhile
Instead of wasting hours in front of the TV, spending too much time on your phone without gaining anything from it, playing games, or browsing Facebook – You can do something that will benefit you in the long-run. You get back what you put in.
Connect With Others And Create A Community
You can virtually meet people from all over the world with the same values and interests as you. If you create a Facebook Group for your blog followers, you will see everyone contributing, sharing their ideas or asking for help. It’s amazing to see everyone come together and the support that gets shared.
YOU CAN WORK FROM HOME AND BE YOUR OWN BOSS! If you’re sick of your job, slaving everyday to make someone else’s dreams come true, having your boss constantly watching over you, wasting too much time on your commute to work, struggling to find affordable childcare, or working overtime and constantly feeling run down, whilst STILL trying to get ahead financially, then this could be for you! You can set up your work space in your home, a local cafe, or even an RV and travel around your country. You can stay home and look after your children whilst writing blog posts during the day. You control how you want to make money, you control your working hours and location, and you control your happiness. Some people even blog part-time whilst still keeping their main jobs to supplement their income.
Many Different Paths To Go Down
You can design your own focus, style and niche. This includes the way your voice comes across in your writing, your categories and the topics you speak about.
Create A Personal Brand And Reputation
A personal brand is the ongoing process of establishing an image of yourself, for how you are perceived by others. You can develop your blog to represent your beliefs, values, knowledge and personality.
Can Be Hard To Get Ahead And Stand Out From The Crowd
There are so many blogs out there on pretty much any topic you can THINK of. Due to such a large amount of people distributing online content, it can be extremely hard to get seen, especially at the start. The best piece of advice I could offer you to overcome this, is to PROVIDE VALUE FOR YOUR AUDIENCE! If you are thinking about starting a blog, and all you write about is events that happen in your life and your feelings, please realize that no one cares. I don’t hop online to read about some strangers life, I click on an article if I believe there is something in it for me.
You Need A Point Of Difference
What can you offer that makes you unique? Why is your writing more important and beneficial to your audience, than someone else’s? Do you have personal experience you can speak from? Do you specialize in something in-particular? Have you gained a lot of knowledge in a specific area? Or have you accomplished something incredible, and want to help others achieve the same? Figure out your unique selling point and really emphasize that when promoting yourself.
Can Take A While To Build Up Your Posts, Audience, Engagement and Monetization Strategies
When starting, its best to have a small collection of blog posts ready to go, so that when someone visits your site for the first time, it isn’t completely blank. Your posting schedule will depend on how much time you allow for blogging. Do you want to do it on the side of your normal job, or quit your job and work from home instead? It is recommended to do both until you are earning enough to replace your full-time income before resigning from your job, if that’s what you desire to do. Personally, my posting schedule is once per week. I also schedule some of my Facebook and Pinterest content ahead of time as well. Some people tend to write several posts a week hoping for more exposure, however my tactic is to write less often, but provide a higher quality of in-depth content.
I use Google Analytics to view how well my blog is doing. It allows me to see how many visitors I get per month, as well as demographic and geographic data on my audience. This allows me to shape my content around who’s actually reading it, so I can benefit their lives. You know your blog is doing well if the number of readers continues to increase every month.
If you want to monetize your blog, you need to come up with a plan on what methods you will use, as well as some goals to achieve. When I was writing my e-book, it took me about 4 months including brainstorming the content, laying it out, researching, writing and editing, photography, cover design, creating a sales platform and a marketing plan. Some people like to place ads on their blog, but the reality is you need a rather large audience to earn anything decent, which also takes a long time to build up.
What I’ve Achieved So Far
I have been blogging for 8 months now. In the first month I received 126 page views even when I had no idea what I was doing, within three months I have achieved 3700 page views, and this month I reached my RECORD of 8,200!!! Of course this number may be higher or lower for you, depending on the time you put in, promotional strategies and content quality. I have written my own e-book to provide my readers with easy simple ways to lose-weight, which was a massive accomplishment for me. I have expanded my knowledge greatly on promoting my content, marketing strategies, graphic design, social media strategies, and how to make my blog aesthetically pleasing.
Starting a blog is one of the best decisions I ever made. I LOVE the fact than I can help others that may be going through situations I have already survived, teaching people essential life skills, how to remain positive and motivated, and thrive in whatever they do. It gives me a platform to connect with other people on a different level, the ability to meet new people all over the world, and promote my personal brand. I thoroughly enjoy forming a post each week and sharing it with my audience on my Facebook Page so they can stay up to date as well.
There is ALWAYS something to learn, ALWAYS something to update and improve, and you MUST be patient.
