The more stuff you own, the more that owns you. If you really want to achieve more in a day, you need to maximise your productivity levels and routine. There are two key things here – Having a minimalist lifestyle, as well as keeping track of tasks to do and upcoming events. When you come home to a clutter-free home at the end of the day, it allows your body to feel like it can truly relax. However if you come home to a messy unorganised household, it stresses you out and literally makes you feel tired, because you are thinking of the size of the task that needs doing. It is also a scientific fact that people who have messy cluttered homes, are more likely to be overweight.
Once you are able to lay everything out and take control of your life, it will allow you to sleep better, eat healthier, exercise more, take time out for self-care, participate in hobbies and activities that make you happy, but most of all, to be more efficient throughout the day.
How To De-Stress Through Organisation
1. Use a calendar app widget on your phone.
I use New Calendar and just show the next two weeks as a widget on the home screen of my phone. It helps me stay organised with work, assignments that are due and exams, as well as important dates to remember so I can plan out my life effectively. I have also heard that Google Calendar is great. Or you can do it the old fashioned way and just use a year planner diary! How about making it a personalised so you can add in your favourite quotes and photos!
2. Have a To-Do List widget on your phone.
I use Any.do because it is simple to use and the tasks are listed in order of priority. When I have free time on my calendar I revert to my to-do list for things that may not have any specific date to complete. It helps me keep track of bills to pay, phone calls to make, household chores, things I want to buy etc. Basically everything I don’t want to forget! It has changed my life. I have also heard that Todoist is also very effective.
3. Clean out everything out of the house you don’t need or use.
This can be sold to make extra money, or donated. This will give you peace of mind being around less clutter and only holding onto items that you need and use regularly. A more spacious and clean home will make you feel refreshed and energized!

4. Organise your wardrobe.
You only need staple items that can be put together easily. For seasonal items, store them separately. Any clothing that needs repairing can be taken to a sewing shop, which will save you money on buying new items.
Throw out anything you don’t wear anymore or no longer fit because its only creating unnecessary clutter. Have a few casual clothes, a few nice items for going out to dinner and a few nice dresses or suits for work. Keep your shoes on a shelf tidily and make sure all your clothes are hung up or in a drawer.
5. Write down your goals.
This is essential if you want to get ahead in life. Place them somewhere visual such as on a piece of paper by your bed, hung on the wall, or create a vision board. Make sure they are measurable as well – how will you know when you have achieved them? Put a time limit on it, which ensures you will be constantly working towards achieving them!
6. Write down friends and family members birthdays.
This means you can avoid forgetting, or running around like crazy last minute trying to find a gift. If it is someone close to you, you will have time to plan a party or a trip away.
7. Clear out your pantry.
Try to avoid going to the supermarket for 2 weeks or a month! Allow yourself trips to buy perishables if needed, but try to plan meals to use up every item in your pantry – some ideas are spaghetti bolognaise, slow-cooker meals and soups! This will not only clear up space from cans and items that have been sitting there for months. It also enables you to clean the inside of the pantry, but it will also save you money!
8. Visit friends and family members you haven’t seen for a while.
This will provide you with peace of mind so you wont be thinking “I need to remember to do that” or “I will do it someday”. It will take it off your mind for a while and allow you to have some nice social time and enjoy their company.
9. Delete old emails, saved internet tabs and files off your computer.
Having a clear out will make your computer less cluttered and everything else will be more easily accessible.
10. Clean your car.
Clean out all of the rubbish and clutter from the inside and wash the outside so you can be proud of what you drive. It makes you look good to others when you take care of your things. You never know when you may have to give someone a ride. Also, every time you sit in a nice fresh car, your mind will feel at ease.
11. Create a weekly schedule.
Ideas for this can be for work, exercise, study, meal prep, or working on your side hustle to earn some extra cash. This will help you to fit everything into your week and to reach your goals.
12. Organise your bank accounts.
Create a savings goal – whether you want to save for a holiday, renovations on your home or to pay off debt. You need to know what you are aiming for and keep it in your mind constantly.
Automate your savings and bill payments so you barely have to touch it.
13. Cook recipes you have been wanting to try.
This may not apply to everyone, but for people who enjoy cooking or are looking to save money – This will make your evenings more interesting, and you may come across some new recipes you love!
14. Write down whats on your mind or stressing you out.
By seeing it all down on paper, you will be able to work at it one by one. Think of a solution in a calm manner one step at a time.
15. Plan your holidays at the start of the year.
This is excellent because it will give you something to look forward to, putting you in a more positive state of mind.
16. Create a bucket list.
This is so important to get complete fulfillment out of life! We never know how long we are going to be around for, so it is important you don’t just ‘live to work’.
Where do you want to travel, what skills do you want to acquire, what activity would you want to try (such as skydiving).
Get out of your comfort zone and aim to tick at least one thing off per year. Make the most of your time on this earth!
